The islands in Maldives are really low, maybe only a meter above sea level. Maldivians are also really friendly, unless some of them already business minded 😀 You will find fresh seafood, vegetables, and fruit in the traditional market in Male. Sometimes, in random times, you will see dolphins swimming so close to the boats, jumping and twisting, just showing off then leave. Super cute!
I heard that a room in a hostel in Male costs around USD 40 per night.
Another famous island is Hulu Male. This one is an artificial island that had recently made. More modern with lots of paved roads and buildings. The beach is plain white and blue. Still nice to snorkel there too. Take ferry from Male.
My favorite is Vilin’ Gili island. It’s more quiet though we had to pay a bit expensive for the toilets. I took ferry from Male there for 3.25 MVR (Maldivian Rufiyaa).
I also like eating the chicken kothu. It tastes like fried scrambled pancake with mixed Indian-Chinese spices (that’s the simplest explanation I can give). One more thing: they have bounty! It does taste like the chocolate bar Bounty, but it’s traditionally made of palm sugar and coconut, wrapped in coconut leaf (dried, brown color). I couldn’t find my picture of it. Sorry…
